 I had the most wonderful time painting this scene and could almost sense the atmosphere and  hear the men at work. I was particularly excited to paint the lighting effects, loved the touches of turquoise as an accent colour and enjoyed the counterchange details. The tree in the foreground adds real drama to the scene. I have had such a fantastic reaction to this painting that it has encouraged me to paint a series of atmospheric paintings.
