               DIANA BERNICE TACKLEY

 Artist, Illustrator & Broadcaster

Signature on artwork -  Diana B. Tackley

Broadcasting name     -  Diana Tackley

Those who know her well call her Bernice  but she is happy to answer to either name! Just to add to the confusion; before she was married to John Tackley, she was formerly Bernice Barrett-Brown!

Bernice's studio is beautifully located overlooking the Trent & Mersy Canal in Barnton, Northwich, Cheshire. She paints mostly in  acrylics, watercolours and oils but enjoys other media as well.

Inspired by her surroundings and the effect of light, colour and texture, she likes to work in a variety of styles and subjects from representational figures and portraits through to colourful contemporary seasonal landscapes and abstracts.

Before changing direction and becoming a fine artist, she was previously a freelance  international designer of wallpapers and furnishing fabrics, exhibiting in London, Paris, Lille, Frankfurt, New York, Seoul and Tokyo. It is this design background which has contributed so much to her versatility.

Many of her paintings are in private collections in U.S.A. Canada, New Zealand  and UK including The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs and she was  honoured to be commissioned to produce a painting which was presented to H.R.H. The Duke of Kent.

Because of her knowledge of Cheshire and the inland waterways she was privileged to be commissioned to illustrate  ‘The Baggin Man Takes the Train’ which was launched on a steam train and 'The Baggin Man visits the Weaver Valley’ both written by John Hulme. Thousands of the books have been widely distributed and many were sent across the world. These are signed in her former name Bernice Barrett-Brown.

Her greatest challenge to date has been the massive 30' x 8' exterior mural which is now on permanent exhibition at the Anderton Boat Lift, Northwich.

As well as art she also enjoyed many years in radio broadcasting and has  taken the opportunity to explore the local arts scene further when presenting her various programmes on Cheshire FM
